Tomorrow in Raleigh: Marriage Amendment Panel Discussion

Tomorrow’s event will no doubt be a spirited, intellectual look at the marriage amendment that will appear on the May 8 ballot.

The Federalist Society’s Triangle Lawyers Chapter and the John Locke Foundation cordially invite you to a panel discussion on North Carolina’s Marriage Amendment on May 3 at the Cardinal Club in downtown Raleigh.

We will begin the evening with a reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by the panel discussion at 6:30 p.m.

On May 8, 2012, North Carolina voters will go to the polls to determine whether we should amend our state constitution to provide, in part, that “marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State.” Please join us to hear from experts on both sides of the issue regarding the Amendment’s merits and the impact your vote will have on the future of our State.

First Cell Phones, Now Taxis

Chapel Hill officials love to regulate business and personal behavior. The new target is taxis, which means less competition and more government.

Taxi companies would be inspected at least once a year by the Chapel Hill Police Department, which would designate responsibilities into a formal office of “taxicab inspector,” Chief Chris Blue told the council Monday night.

May Day Malcontents Mail White Powder-Filled Letters

This is an effort to improve the country? Hogwash.  Their goal is spread fear, envy, and anger toward the productive.  These people should be ashamed of themselves.

The NYPD, meanwhile, is investigating letters containing white powder that were delivered to the offices of several corporations and banks in Manhattan on Monday and Tuesday.

Seven letters were received Monday at various locations, including Wells Fargo and to where the mayor’s mail is processed. Three more were received Tuesday — two of the letters were mailed to News Corp., one of which was addressed to the Wall Street Journal.  A third letter was sent to Citicorp, police said.

The letters each contained a message that said “This is a reminder that you are not in control” and “Happy May Day.”
