Texas Town Cracks Down On Flags On Graves

There is no common sense left.

The City Council of a town in North Texas is rethinking a local ordinance limiting flags on veterans’ graves after an outcry from local veterans and residents.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the Mineral Wells City Council passed the ordinance on June 19 saying flags would only be allowed on graves in the Woodland Park Cemetery for a week before and after Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

The Politics of Andy Griffith

I teared up upon hearing of Andy Griffith’s death yesterday. Like so many Americans, Sheriff Andy Taylor has been part of my life. I always felt like the fictional Sheriff Taylor and I were kindred spirits who looked at things in similar ways. No such similarities existed between the real Andy Griffith and me. I am a fiscal and social conservative. A liberal Democrat, Griffith didn’t hesitate to make his liberal views known. In fact, he became legendary for his endorsements of Democratic gubernatorial candidates and, more recently, for his endorsement of Obamacare. The LA Times has a good summary of Griffith’s political life, including his political ads.

Rest in peace, Mr. Griffith. You won’t be forgotten.
