Edwards doesn’t like a free press
Posted October 26th, 2007 at 3:10 PM by Jon HamI’m torn here. On the one hand I can’t help but enjoy a lefty Democrat squealing when he’s the object of the kind of magnifying-glass journalism that conservatives experience every day. On the other hand, despite their target, this is yet another example of liberal media bias against affluence, against nicely kept lawns (yes, the Tar Heel editor said that) and trouble-free communities. John Edwards’ campaign wanted the story taken down from YouTube, saying it sounded like a Republican press release. Here’s the video:
An audio of the story done by State Government News is here.
UPDATE: AP gets it wrong again. Here’s how The Associated Press characterized student journalist Carla Babbs’ report:
In the report, Babb interviews students, one on the campaign, one not. She asks whether it is appropriate for Edwards to base his operations in his affluent hometown of Chapel Hill, home of the university, as opposed to a location that would better reflect his campaign platform of fighting poverty.
No, not at all. It questioned whether it is appropriate for the campaign to base its operations in Southern Village, one of the most affluent parts of an already affluent community. Come on, AP, get it right.

This seems a significant blunder. Nothing good can accrue to the Edwards campaign by back-channel attempts to silence a college student, especially given the trifling nature of her report.
Still, to me, the most grating part of the entire report was the student editor who quoted “the words of the poet, Jayzee.”
Poet? You have someone cursing and boasting about being “one of the realest [N-words] out” and says “yo my balls and my words is alls i have,” and you call it poetry?
Here’s the actual quotation, including the next few poetic lines:

John Edwards and other like-minded liberals love the free press, so long as it prints stuff they want to hear. Otherwise, they complain and sometimes threaten to sue people.

This report was VERY low-key. With all the heartburn that Johnny Boy was having over it, I would have thought that they exposed that the secret entrance to Dr. Evil’s Secret Lair was in the back room, or that they had uncovered a non-union, illegal alien, child molester campaign worker of his killing a tree or something. (Then I remembered that Dr. Evil has endorsed Hillary. My bad.)
If Mr. Girly-Man Edwards can’t take the TINY amount of heat generated by this news report, I would sure hate to have him dealing with foreign policy. He might get scared and surrender us all to the Iranians or France or somebody.

And I thought it was wimpy for the Democratic candidates to chicken out of the Fox News debate. This one’s got anxiety over a student TV station? Heaven preserve us.
Question for Jon Ham — Did Carolina Journal get any credit for Don Carrington’s aerial photograph of Casa Eduardo (about 48 seconds from the end)?
No? I didn’t think so.

Hal, nope, they didn’t credit Carolina Journal or Don.

Is is possible the AP does not know Carrboro? With all the activists per square foot, how is that possible?
