Inmates have taken over the asylum, part whatever

Posted December 1st, 2007 at 11:26 AM by Jon Ham

I’ve suspected for some years that the craziest and most incompetent people in our society have gravitated toward teaching and education administration. Things like this pretty much confirm it:

Hanukkah, Human Rights Day, winter break, the Islamic holy day Eid al-Adha, first day of winter and Kwanzaa all made the list, but Spokane Public Schools snubbed Christmas.

As per the drill, the clueless educators tried to backtrack and say it was all a big mistake. Funny, though, how the big mistakes never affect Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Islamic holy days. And still, lefties claim there is no war on Christmas. It’s all just a series of “honest, unfortunate mistakes,” I guess.

Re the War on Christmas: speaking as a moderate independent who often ends up siding with the lib’rils, I do agree that it’s ridiculous for a public institution to list other religious holidays and not Christmas. It manages to be both spineless and offensive at the same time — something which politically-driven groups (such as school boards) seem to have a talent for. Maybe there should be a standardized test for this ability, and the highest scorers can be awarded a scholarship to go somewhere far away, and stay there.

Re Bill O’Reilly’s claim, as reported by MediaMatters, that this War is part of a secular progressive agenda that includes legalization of narcotics, euthanasia, abortion at will, gay marriage: well, perhaps he’s right; I’m non-religious and progressive, and I’m more or less in favor (with some qualifications) of all those things. (Note: I am *not*, however, part of some organized movement to promote those causes, as implied by the Bill’s use of the word “agenda”; I’m not sure there is any such thing, but if you’re aware of one perhaps you could send me a link so I can get in touch with them.)

What remains unclear to me is why those things aren’t all good ideas.

(I could defend each cause in detail, but I don’t want this comment to become a tome. There’s also no preview, so I don’t know if I can use links to refer to further discussion elsewhere on each of the topics O’Reilly mentions.)

Crap like this from Spokane is just one example of the progressive insanity that’s steadily taking over this nation’s public school systems… and one result of it is more and more parents withdrawing their children from public schools (especially here in Mecklenburg County) and enrolling them in private schools or home-schooling them.

I’m surprised there haven’t been more tax revolts by parents who are finding themselves increasingly alienated from public schools. I don’t have any kids, but if I did, I’d be giving a very hard time to any public school official who discriminated against one very popular faith (Christianity) while continuing to “promote” others such as Islam or even the relatively benign Judaism. If you’re gonna put Ramadan on the calendar, you have to also put Easter and Christmas on the calendar; anything less and I’d file a class action suit against the school system for discrimination.
