There is no common sense left.
The City Council of a town in North Texas is rethinking a local ordinance limiting flags on veterans’ graves after an outcry from local veterans and residents.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the Mineral Wells City Council passed the ordinance on June 19 saying flags would only be allowed on graves in the Woodland Park Cemetery for a week before and after Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Well, not according to the locals:
“The ordinance does not ban flags that are displayed in an approved container. In those cases, flags may remain on graves year-round, Formby said. Temporary flags may also be displayed for the week before and after both Memorial Day and Veterans Day.”

And forgive me ignorance — is Mineral Wells some sort of liberal enclave? Cause I don’t see that in what I’m reading…

My blog makes no accusation about anyone being “liberal.” My issue is with the limitation that flags not in “approved containers” are limited to a two-week period. I have personal experience with cemetery regulations where a loved one is buried and I can tell you that the rules are arbitrary, and most make little sense. The Mineral Springs example is arbitrary. Why is two weeks OK, but three weeks is not? Town officials should have known it would cause a stir. It’s poor policy that makes the town look bad.
