Duke University Professor Dan Ariely, who teaches behavioral economics, is one of my favorites. In this recent blog post, he discusses the issue of cheating in his classroom, as well as the impact of the perception of cheating. It is fascinating and I encourage you to read it and share it, particularly with young people. He concludes with this fascinating question:
The bottom line is that if people perceive that cheating is running rampant, what are the chances that next year’s students will adopt even more lenient moral standards and live up to the perception of cheating among their peers?
