Earlier this week I was nearly sideswiped by a car whose driver was distracted while driving nearly 70 miles an hour on the Durham Freeway. Was the culprit a phone? No — it was a child who was in the passenger seat. For those who think we should ban distractions while driving, I will again make my case that the most dangerous driving distractions are children and the parents who feed, talk to, yell at, sing with, dress, and read to their kids while driving. Do I want them banned? No. But I don’t think phones should be banned either.
