The Durham Rescue Mission is one of the most productive nonprofits in the Triangle, and the staff, led by Ernie and Gail Mills, helps the needy and vulnerable without taking government money. Now they need the public’s help to provide clothing to kids at their annual back to school event. If you believe, as I do, that our social safety net must have muscular support from those of us who advocate for limited government, then this is an opportunity for you to consider. And if you decide this particular group isn’t a good fit for you, I encourage you to find another way to personally assist those who find themselves at a crossroads in life. It doesn’t take a government program to help someone. Only by our actions do we limited-government conservatives illustrate our point to those who say government, not the individual, is the answer to society’s ills.
