No Government Program Required, Part 2

Yesterday I blogged about my hope that limited-government conservatives will step up and support nonprofits that operate without government funding. Morally, it is the right thing to do to help others, but by doing so, conservatives illustrate the power of the individual to progressives who believe more in the power of government. The nonprofit I wrote about is the Durham Rescue Mission. Turns out there’s big news for the mission, and the news showcases my point about the power of the individual.

Sandra Peterson, a supporter of the Durham Rescue Mission, left $450,000 in her will for the nonprofit. According to a news release and mission officials, she was a supporter of the mission because she believed it could have helped her adopted son, who had a drug addiction and died in his 20s.

Her gift was the largest estate gift received by the Durham Rescue Mission, according to the release.

Just wonderful news, and a great example of individual commitment. No government program required.
