How liberals think

Posted January 11th, 2008 at 12:07 PM by Jon Ham

The Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is spewing spittle over the notion that CVS might open mini medical clinics in its “big box” branches. He’s afraid that profit will denigrate the health care of Bostonians:

“Limited service medical clinics run by merchants in for-profit corporations will seriously compromise quality of care and hygiene. Allowing retailers to make money off of sick people is wrong.”

Conservatives have long claimed that what liberals really want is to make people dependent on government. That comment pretty much confirms that. Not content to let a free market try something new that might help people, might be more convenient than what we have now, and might end up being cheaper, he fumes about loss of government control.

As Bryan at Hot Air pointed out:

Does Mayor Menino not realize that most private medical practices are for-profit operations?

No, apparently not. His mind is already where Hillary wants us all: Thinking that anything having to do with medicine should be provided by the nanny state.

One Response to “How liberals think”

  1. Eric M. Weaver, Sr. Says:

Why would anyone go through the trouble and expense of opening a chain of medical clinics if they could not make a buck doing so? And if they charge too much, all of the sick folks will go somewhere else.

These clinics are a good way of increasing the effectiveness of the limited capacity exists in the current medical system. Every person that CVS makes a buck off of is one person who feels better, and one person who will not add to the crowds in the emergency room or the doctor’s office. This is a good thing, for those of you out there who are not sure.

One or more of the following is the case:

    1. Mayor Menino is just a non-free-market socialist, and does not like private business of any sort.
    2. The doctors of Boston do not like the competition from nurse practitioners, and have bought and paid for Mayor Menino, and he is carrying their water.
    3. Mayor Menino is uncomfortable with people not having to be beholden to the government for things like health care.

All I can say is that I have not lost anything in Boston, and they can do whatever they want to up there, and will not have to worry about me partaking in any of it.
