Durham Officials Want Another Fee Hike

Posted May 5th, 2008 at 2:53 PM by Donna Martinez

If you live in Durham, get ready to hand over more of your money to the city. The special $10 vehicle fee that was approved for Durham by legislators in 2004 is set to expire. That’s put Durham officials into overdrive to not only get an extension of the existing fee, but also to hike the fee by 50%, to $15 per vehicle. What does Rep. Mickey Michaux (D-Durham) think about it? From the Herald-Sun:

While an extension of the present $10 fee looks like it might be in the cards, it’s not clear whether legislators will act on the city’s request for a $5 increase.

Michaux said an increase is “a possibility,” but so is an extension that would “give us more time to flesh this out.”

Today is somebody’s last stand, though I hope it lasts another 3 months…

    - Blogs4Bauer has a reason for Dave Bauer to get off his duff and save DC; the Attorney General is an envirowhacko.

Donna, it says a lot about Durham competence that they didn’t even realize the tax was going to sunset this summer. Why not the best, huh?
