Question: What ISN’T offensive to Muslims?

Posted July 16th, 2008 at 8:34 AM by Jon Ham

Christian doctrine is offensive to Muslims, the Archbishop of Canterbury said yesterday.

Democrat Barack Obama said Tuesday that the New Yorker magazine’s satirical cover depicting him and his wife as flag-burning, fist-bumping radicals doesn’t bother him but that it was an insult to Muslim Americans.

And here’s a whole Web site devoted to things offensive to Muslims.

The current Archbishop of Canterbury is a jackass who should be defrocked at the first available opportunity.

The fact that I am an Episcopalian and he is the head of the church I belong to should tell you something about what an embarassment Rowan Williams is. Hey, Rowan: You don’t care (or shouldn’t) what is or is not offensive to Muslims. That’s not the religion you’re in charge of. Stop selling your own flock down the river in order to placate the members of a different religion whose core views clash strongly with your own, you Judas.

Do you really want me to answer that question? It could get a bit graphic.

Hmmm… I haven’t seen any conversation here about the UCF student who’s received death threats for taking the cracker at a Catholic eucharist and not eating it, or William Donohue’s call for said student to be charged with a hate crime.

If a similar situation came up with Islam, y’all would be all over that one. (Not defending what the student did, but disproportionate response and all that.)

Come to think of it, JH, I haven’t seen any conversation here about the murder of the woman in Cary. You must be for that, right, on the Rose Maxway inference-by-omission principle?

    For shame, sir.

  5. Pi Master Says:

She’s been on a roll with that tactic lately.

  6. Rose Maxway Says:

Come now, Jon, that’s a rhetorical dodge for a legitimate question.

The Right Angles blog routinely covers cases where governments and media organizations bow to pressure from extremist fundamentalist Muslims.

Given that dogged interest in the subject, is one wrong to ask why a similar situation involving extremist fundamentalist Catholics doesn’t get covered?

But, hey, remember — I suspect I’m one of the only readers outside of the JLF, the N&O, and the Variety Wholesalers, Inc. crowd, at least given the fact that no one outside a small cadre of readers ever seems to comment here. And, really, what’s the fun of that?

No, friend, it is merely lampooning the red herring. You have more, I see.

  10. Skyler the Weird Says:

Well the problem is that in this country people don’t care what offends Catholics especially our friends on the Left. These same folks bend over backwards to accomodate Islam going so far as to tear down the wall between Mosque and State in many cases. But heck Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptists on which Lemon, Roe and other court decisions rest didn’t mention the Mosque did it????

  11. Eric M. Weaver, Sr. Says:

A good question to ask would be, “Why do we care what offends Muslims?”

There is NO right to not be offended that is granted to anybody. Unfortunately, many wish that there was.

  12. clayj Says:

Democrats and stupid people offend me.

Ergo, I should be entitled to an existence free of them. Yes?
