Change is Great, as Long as Someone Else is Forced To Do It

Posted August 4th, 2008 at 8:34 AM by Donna Martinez

Human nature is on full display in the debate over whether or not to redevelop the Glen Lennox area of Chapel Hill, which dates back to 1950. It’s fascinating to follow the storyline of these types of stories, whether it relates to growth, business development, or the cyclical economy they view as unfair. The community discussion typically begins with talk of the “common good” and the value of change. But then reality hits when people realize they’re the ones who’ll have to change. D’oh!

My question is – what the hell ever happened to the concept of private property?

Shouldn’t the Glen Lennox developers – who presumably OWN the property – be allowed to change it as they wish?

What business is it of all the jerks who don’t own the property, but who wish to tell the owners what to do with it?

Silent E already put up an abbreviated Scramble back at my main site that can’t be missed, but I don’t leave until o-light-hundred (6 am Central) Wednesday. I may as well combine the two…

I’m basically of the opinion that anyone who chooses to live in Chapel Hill or any other part of Orange County at this point in time is either a masochist or a complete idiot, or both.

It’s time for the sensible people of that area to go on Strike and bail the hell out of there, and let those who remain run the community into the ground.
