Why America thinks MSM newspapers are a joke

Posted August 20th, 2008 at 1:37 PM by Jon Ham

Both Chicago newspapers have ignored efforts by the University of Illinois to hamper an investigation by National Review of the relationship between Barack Obama and former Weather Underground radical bomb thrower William Ayers.

The Chicago Tribune and the Sun-Times are legendary newspapers with stellar histories. Over the years they have won Pulitzers and fought for the public’s right to know. Those days are over, apparently. Now truth takes a back seat to the basest Chicago ward politics. Sad.

And the newspaper industry wonders why it’s dying.

This is the same kind of nonsense that went on during the John Edwards scandal.

The difference between the MSM on one side and the bloggers/alt-media/tabloids on the other is that the former are deathly afraid of offending anyone who’s in a position of power, while the latter are not. Part of that fear comes from the fact of who owns these large newspapers: Large conglomerates who love, and sometimes even depend on, political good will. Only when a particular figure is already sliding down the mountainside in an avalanche of negative press and public opinion do these folks decide to pile onboard, following the logic of “we’re not sticking our necks out because everyone’s already heading in that direction”.

The only large papers that aren’t tabloids that aren’t bowing to pressure to whitewash the news are those owned by mavericks like Rupert Murdoch who honestly don’t care what anyone thinks about them.

Where where they when reporters tried with success to open the sealed divorce records of Obama Senatorial Campaign opponent Jack Ryan and his ex spouse Jeri ‘7 of 9′ Ryan. The records showed Jack tried to take her to some very un GOP clubs and he was forced to drop out of the race right in the middle of the campaign. “Weird Al” Keyes faced Obama who slid into the Senate. If the records had remained sealed Ole Hopenchange would be back in the Illinois state government probably preparing to be a Hillary superdelegate.

I know I know Jack was a Republican. They’re evil and don’t deserve the right to privacy
