Seriously?

Posted August 23rd, 2008 at 10:32 AM by Jon Ham

What was he thinking? Joe Biden? Where’s the “change” in that choice?

I can’t wait to see how the MSM tries to spin this as another brilliant move by The One. Just yesterday I read a wire report (sorry, but can’t find it today) exclaiming that The Messiah’s use of suspense and new media regarding his veep choice was an example of his masterful showmanship. Riiiight.

How masterful was it that the vaunted text message went out at 4:50 a.m., when most of the new-age hip kids were either passed out or actually asleep after their night of hip clubbing.

Imagine them all in the bars of New York waiting breathlessly for the message, and it not coming. “Man, it’s 4 o’clock. I’m going home.” And then getting up this morning and learning the choice. “What, Joe fargin’ Biden, the ultimate insider? He’s been in the Washington longer that McCain, fer cryin’ out loud. What’s up with that?”

I think Ed Morrissey has it exactly right:

I’m not sure a political campaign could possibly screw up a running-mate announcement as badly as Team Obama. The e-mail message that the world awaited for days finally came — at 4:50 am ET. As widely known late the evening before, Barack Obama picked Joe Biden to be his VP nominee, but apparently he didn’t want too many people to know it.

UPDATE: The WaPo doesn’t see a big Biden surge for the Obama campaign.

QUICK RESPONSE: The McCain folks had a Biden ad up at 6:06 a.m. Check it out. Pretty devastating.

THIS IS FUNNY: “John McCain is in fighter pilots heaven…on Obama’s six. Obama is flying a transport with one engine flaming, the co-pilot hanging out the door ready to jump and the cockpit is full of smoke.”

MORE FUNNY STUFF: One commenter on HotAir.com wonders if Karl Rove is running Obama’s campaign. Another says:

Joe Biden: When one lying, arrogant, insulting, race-baiting plagiarist on the ticket just isn’t enough.

WHY BIDEN?: Could Ed Morrissey’s post last night prove correct? He titled it Maybe no one wanted the gig

BETSY’S VIEW: Raleigh high school teacher and blogger Betsy Newmark gives her reaction on the Fox Forum, “Hello, Biden, bye bye change.”

The impending breakup of the Democratic Party certainly is a beautiful sight to behold. I only wonder if I set the odds of the PUMAs being successful in a coup too low at 2-1, as this seems tailor-made for more than a few supers to flip.

Clinton only needs to steal 84 supers to deny the first ballot to Obama, and it will be Katie-bar-the-door after that.

This whole thing is just classic.

First off, why would Obama even announce the VP choice until after Clinton surrendered her delegates at the convention? With this dumbass choice, he’s basically opened the door for Clinton to proclaim that he has blown it and try to pull some kind of stunt at the convention.

Second: Biden? Really? Mr. Boring Plagiarist himself?

And finally (for now)… it seems that Obama’s entire idea of “change” is that he wants an increase (you know, that’s a change) in how much average Americans get bent over by the government.

This strikes me as a classic, classic bit of self-sabotage by Barack Obama. The man well and truly does NOT want to be president. Too much actual responsibility. Biden has a rap sheet a mile long, one that Mr. and Mrs. Middle America will not have to repress any haunting tinge of racial guilt to wonder about at neighborhood progressive dinners.
