The cheater writes new rules
Posted January 27th, 2009 at 9:37 AM by Jon HamThere’s something galling about tax-cheat Timothy Geithner writing rules for the rest of us:
Under orders to move quickly on the faltering economy, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is expected to unveil new rules Tuesday to limit special-interest influence involving the $700 billion financial rescue program.
The new rules are designed to crack down on lobbyist influence over the rescue program, according to an administration official with knowledge of the changes.
Geithner’s tax troubles are buried in this story, which includes lots of rhetorical cover for his cheating by fellow Democrats:
However, Geithner’s supporters said that he had now paid the back taxes plus interest and that Obama deserved to have someone of Geithner’s skills in financial crisis management leading the new administration’s efforts.
Funny how it didn’t work that way for Bernard Kerik. Oh, wait. He was a Republican.
UPDATE: Ten Republicans voted to confirm Geithner as Treasury Secretary yesterday. What, pray, were they thinking? Even Robert “Sheets” Byrd voted against Timothy “Cheats” Geithner, saying:
“Had [Geithner] not been nominated for Treasury secretary, it’s doubtful that he would have ever paid these taxes.â€

Another nail in the coffin of the GOP as anything besides a collection of special interests in opposition to the Demo special interests. The principled thing for Republicans to do would be to stand WITH the nation’s community bankers who are being gang-raped by the money center/TreasFed/Goldman Sachs axis.
Also, where is the legislation to fold the Fed into the Treasury and make official the melding of their roles this past year? It is the honest thing to do.

Will there be a “Geithner” rule now, that says that we get two free shots at paying our back taxes, at least up to $34,000, without penalties or interest? And only once we are backed into a corner?
Not for we “normal people.”
With this sort of official arrogance on display by the Socialists who have come to power, it is no wonder that we conservatives lack faith in government! I just did not expect to see something so bold and so high-profile so soon! It is a bad harbinger of things to come.
