When I was a kid one of the favorite daytime shows was called “Queen for a Day.” The host, Jack Bailey, would listen to women tell their sob stories in front of a live audience and then would haul out an applause meter to decide what women would get her wishes. The winner would be draped in an ermine royal stole and crowned with a tiara as the tears would flow.

Watching President Obama’s shameful performance in Florida the other day, I couldn’t help but think of Bailey and his sob-sister schtick. The difference was, Bailey wasn’t lavishing taxpayers’ money on his weepy down-and-outers.
