Liberal Columnist Makes My Day
Posted February 26th, 2009 at 5:38 PM by Donna MartinezAccording to Ari Berman of the hard-left publication The Nation, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, a Republican, is “eccentric,” among other things. But what I find really interesting about this piece – aside from the fact that the Left clearly sees Jindal and his message as a growing threat – is that Berman says conservatives, not moderates, are winning the very real fight in the GOP.
If you haven’t noticed, a tug of war is under way inside the GOP between pragmatic moderates who want to modernize the party and recognize that government has a role to play in improving people’s lives–such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Charlie Crist–and primarily Southern governors like Jindal, South Carolina’s Mark Sanford and Mississippi’s Haley Barbour, who want to slash taxes, cut social services and reject government help at a moment of economic crisis. Judging by his speech last night and the GOP caucus on Capitol Hill, the right-wing Southerners are winning the war.
Hallelujah – conservatism is winning the fight over ideas. Thank you, Gov. Jindal.
If you’d like to hear Gov. Jindal’s view on our culture’s role in society, you can watch his recent speech at the John Locke Foundation’s anniversary dinner here.

A study in word choice: the moderates are described as pragmatic people who just want to modernize and improv[e] people’s lives. How nice.
The conservatives, on the other hand, want to slash, cut and reject. How awful! Unless you’re describing a basketball player.

Well Haley Barbour is still waiting on George Bush and the MSM to discover that the predominately Euro and Indo Chinese Americans of Southern Mississippi were actually hit harder by Katrina than the welfare denizens of the Ninth Ward in New Orleans. The people hit by the Kentucky ice storm discovered the same thing.
