How’s that OJT going, Barack?
Posted March 7th, 2009 at 5:23 PM by Jon HamNot too good. As all of his opponents, Dem and Republican, said last year, on-the-job training is OK for lots of jobs, but not for the Commander in Chief’s position. That’s my emphasis added to the astounding comment that Obama was surprised that the presidency involved actual hard work, probably the first of his life:
Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president’s surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.
A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama’s inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to “even fake an interest in foreign policyâ€. …
The American source said: “Obama is overwhelmed. There is a zero sum tension between his ability to attend to the economic issues and his ability to be a proactive sculptor of the national security agenda.

Hard to believe I am saying this, but here goes:
We would have been better off with Hillary Clinton as President.

I told my wife the same thing last night. She said, “We’d have been a lot better off if McCain had won,” and I said, “We’d have been a lot better off if Hillary had won.”

As I have said before, if Barack Obama is the answer, it must be a mighty stupid question.

Hillary Clinton being better is a scary, yet true thought. Of course, you don’t want either her or Obama handling the gift-getting.

In a funny way, this gives me hope.

Any candidate for executive leadership needs to read The Reagan Diaries. Obviously our current president had not, or he wouldn’t be surprised. It’s not just the volume of traffic through his calendar but the unbelieveable diversity of things the president is expected to do in just an average work day — let alone while attempting to re-invent the whole government in his first ninety days. I’m neither surprised nor very sympathetic.
As others are pointing out, “You got what you voted for …”
