Stumbling over that stellar intellect again

Posted May 27th, 2009 at 8:50 AM by Jon Ham

Poor Barack Obama. He keeps stumbling over his stellar intellect:

“Of the many responsibilities granted to a president by our Constitution, few are more serious or more consequential than selecting a Supreme Court justice. The members of our highest court are granted life tenure, often serving long after the presidents who appointed them. And they are charged with the vital task of applying principles put to paper more than 20 centuries ago to some of the most difficult questions of our time.”

Just for the record, he’s talking about the U.S. Constitution, which was written 21 decades ago.

He must have been thinking about 20th Century Fox.

But I do appreciate that he seems willing to concede that the job of a Supreme Court justice is to apply Constitutional principles to the law. Nowhere in the Constitution do we see words like “empathy”. His previous rhetoric about how we need someone who “feels” was plain scary. Supreme Court justices are not supposed to be about “feelings”, they’re supposed to be about applying the law regardless of feelings.

Maybe he was thinking about the New Testament? A lot to say about justice there — as well as the distinction between private individuals, the role of the church, and the proper (and limited) jurisdiction of the state.

I can imagine the late night comedy writers banging their heads against a wall ever time a new Obama gaffe is made. He has more Bushisms than Bush.

It’s true: He does have more Bushisms than Bush.

Unfortunately, a lot of the folks on TV are still blind to any mistake Obama makes or any stupid thing that Obama says. He could announce during a press conference that he was converting to Satan worship and taking up drug dealing and child molesting as hobbies and MSNBC would still find some way to try to blame it all on Bush. At least Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are proving to be equal-opportunity critics of the Messiah.

FWIW, I recently dumped MSNBC as my web browser homepage… I’d been using MSNBC ever since they debuted in 1996, when I was still working for Microsoft. I’ve finally had enough of their garbage and it’s OK with me if a hole opens up in the Earth and swallows their entire operation. I’m just glad that they have no real affiliation with Microsoft anymore.

    PS: Referential quote:

This is Admiral Kirk. We tried it once your way, Khan, are you game for a rematch? Khan, I’m laughing at the “superior intellect.” –Adm. James T. Kirk, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

  6. Skyler the Weird Says:

I hope Star Trek 2.0 II is a remake of Space Seed and WOK with Antonio Bandaras as Khan.

I do like Clicked and Technotica aka Netiquette at MSNCCCP
