Former Mike Easley aide Ruffin Poole appeared at the federal courthouse in Raleigh today — in handcuffs.
Anthony Greco of CJTV has video of the arrival here, and here is David Bass’ story.
What must former governor Mike Easley be thinking right now?
I take no pleasure in seeing the suffering of people whose lives are torn apart. The sad fact is, if the allegations in the indictment are proven true, Mr. Poole has no one to blame but himself.

If they brought it on themselves, I absolutely do. As the existence of an afterlife in either Heaven or Hell cannot be objectively proven, and therefore the concept of the guilty being adequately punished following death is equally unprovable, I’m all in favor of bad people receiving a fair measure of punishment in this plane of existence.
If Ruffin Poole is smart, he will do whatever he can to make sure that Easley receives his fair measure of punishment. If he’s stupid, then he’s screwed.

So is his nickname “Cuffin’ Ruffin” now?
I am sure that he or one close to him will spill more beans. We had Andy Curliss from the N&O at the Wake County Taxpayers’ Association meeting on Thursday, and he seems to think that there is a bunch more investigative work to do on various things. (Thought he was certainly professional enough to not speculate on exactly what he thinks he will find.)
The presentation he gave showed what (in my mind) a reporter was supposed to do – lots of legwork and tenaciousness.
So who is the next rat off the ship?
