It’s dead

Posted June 28th, 2007 at 11:37 AM by Jon Ham

The U.S. Senate defeated Harry Reid’s cloture vote this morning (53 no votes), pretty much killing immigration reform until after 2008. Of course, AP is making a point of calling this “President Bush’s plan,” neglecting to point out that the sponsor of the backroom immigration-reform bill was Ted Kennedy. Sure, Bush wanted it. So did Republicans Arlen Specter and Lindsay Graham, but the major backing for this bill was on the Democratic side of the aisle. That will get lost in tonight’s coverage, I predict. Click the image below and scroll down to hear Kennedy’s impassioned plea for “Bush’s plan.”

    This is, obviously, good news.

I’m gonna be gracious about this and not say anything like I won’t be voting for Burr when he comes up for re-election. But I *will* say that he is now on double-secret probation: He better straighten up and fly right for the remainder of his term, and then we can talk about whether we should allow him to keep his job.

But the following people are now on my PSL… and I ain’t referring to Panthers season tickets. I’m talking about my Permanent S*** List. Here are the new members:

    President George W. Bush
    Sen. Arlen Specter
    Sen. Jon Kyl
Sen. John McCain (who might as well end his run for President *today*)
Sen. Lindsay Graham (those of you in SC better run this bum out of office at the first available opportunity)

Obviously, people like Kennedy have been on the PSL forever.

And I’ll give props to Sen. Richard Byrd of WV. Sure, he’s a senile old fart whose very existence I usually despise… but he’s a senile old fart who voted NO, and not just on this vote.

Oh, yeah, one more addition to my PSL:

    Sen. Trent Lott

His attack on talk radio, particularly for its contribution to the popular uprising against S. 1639, is simply unforgiveable.

OK, one last addition to my PSL:

    Sen. Sam Brownback

Why? Because he initially voted YES on cloture this morning and then, almost at the last second and after he realized that this bill was going down in flames, he changed his vote to NO.

Guess what, Sam? You got caught with your hand in the cookie jar. (I thought I heard his name called twice by the vote lady, and the Hotair folks confirmed it.) Just go ahead and call off your Presidential run now, Sammie boy.
